NV Pierre Gimonnet 'Brut Extra' 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs
Pierre Gimonnet proves to be a master blender with this non-vintage 1er Cru. On his 25 hectare property, Pierre tends to a majority of vines aged about 40 years and also to a small parcel of 80 year-old vines. In order to gain character and complexity in NV cuvées, he builds his wines with single vintages that have aged in the bottle instead of previously finished blends. This bottling contains 5-10 year-old wine made of Chardonnay grown in Cote de Blancs. Single-year vintage Champagne is certainly special, but there is really something to be said about a wonderfully constructed multi-vintage bubbly. The complexity, depth and nuance is profound.
92 points, Wine Advocate. "A touch of brioche on the nose leads to well-meshed flavors of ripe pear, apple blossom, lemon pastry cream and grated ginger in this expressive Champagne. Offers a rich flavor profile in a clean-cut, minerally frame and a long, fine finish of oyster shell and spice."
