NV Paul Déthune Grand Cru Brut
"One of the best Champagne values you'll find anywhere." - Mike Guerra, Advanced Somm and certified Champagne fanatic.
A true “grower” Champagne, the Dethune family owns a small portion of the Grand Cru vineyard in Ambonnay, where they have made wine since the 17th century. The vineyards are planted in the ratio of 70% Pinot Noir to 30% Chardonnay, are farmed on organic principles. If Pierre and Sophie were into marketing or represented by one of the Big Distributors, their wines could easily be TWICE the price. They highlight the character of their old vines and use a high percentage of reserve wines (from a decades-old,solera-style perpetual blend) to craft wines of amazing depth and complexity. The NV Brut Grand Cru shows off the broad shoulders and expansive personality of Ambonnay in its rich, textured fruit. Ripe red berries, pears, hazelnuts and pastry are some of the nuances that are woven together in this attractive, totally delicious NV Champagne.
