Cain Vineyards, located on Spring Mountain, is one of our favorite Napa wineries, and this might be one of the best deals from Napa available. It’s an unspecified blend of Bordeaux varietals, with 2/3 of the fruit coming from Cain’s estate vineyard and the remainder from valley floor sites. It’s also a blend of the 2016 and 2017 vintages- an approach you don’t see often in Napa but that we love. Even though 2017 was a year of fires, all fruit for this wine is picked early for freshness and was already off the vine by the time smoke arrived. It has a bouquet of raspberries, red cherries, forest, and earth, but the best is the palate. This one steps lightly and with elegance - mouthfilling without being heavy, it slips down easy to a delicate, clean finish.
