2021 Paul Prieur et Fils Sancerre
Loire Valley, France
With Luc Prieur taking the reigns of his family estate at age 21, he has quickly taken the already consistent estate to new heights. His village wine comes from vineyards dotted around the region from the three major soil types: caillottes, silex, and terres blanches. A very appealing nose of Lemon oil, verbena, wet slate and electric minerality. A great weightiness provides the frame for the rich palate and sturdy acidity.
For 11 generations, the Prieur family has been wine-growers in the village of Verdigny, Sancerre. The present proprietors and winemakers are Luc Prieur and his father Didier (w\ho himself took over from his father Paul in 1973). The hallmark of the Prieur Sancerre Blanc is its ideal combination of verve, balance and length.
The 2021 has tension and precision, with a fine saline structure. This is exceptional terroir-driven Sancerre from one of the finest young talents in the region.
