2020 Union Sacré Sylvaner 'Rancho Sisquoc Vineyard'
Santa Maria Valley, California
Criminally delicious! This is one of the most thirst-quenching, fun and unique white wines I've tasted this summer. It's 100% Sylvaner - an ancient, underrated white grape grown mainly in western Germany, Alsace, France and in Alto Adige in Italy known for it's boisterous peach-like fruit contrasted by subtle herbal flavors. This version comes to you from the Central Coast, made by two whimsical friends. Fermented on thin lees for 3 weeks at 55*F. Aged in 500 liters neutral wood puncheons. Unfiltered. Only 200 cases were made.
Tasting Notes: Bright, fresh and clean. Subtle notes of white flowers, granny smith apple, and Asian pear.
Winery Notes: The wines of Union Sacre are focused on elegant, single vineyard, single varietal wines that are table friendly. Varietals include: Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sangiovese. Union Sacre exists at the meeting of worlds. Made by two long time friends, Xavier and Philip, who arrived at the Central Coast from opposite ends of the Earth. Xavier Arnaudin is a WSET certified, oenology degree holding ex-boxer from France, Philip Muzzy is a self-taught designer from Michigan who kind of misses living in a van.
