2020 Teófilo Reyes Joven Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero, Spain
100% Tempranillo. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in neutral French oak for 4 months with an additional 6 months in the bottle before release.
Complex and expressive nose of berry, herbs and smoke. Plump and juicy with evident, yet pliant tannins. Harmonious acidity keeps wine fresh. Surprising depth, complexity and length.
Bodegas Reyes was founded in 1994 by Juan José and Luis, under the technical direction of their father Teófilo Reyes, hoping to give continuity to the experience gained by him for over fifty years in the business, including being the winemaker at Pesquera from 1974 to 1994. He was also the founding oenologist of the first winemaker cooperatives, and creator of some of the wines that have given fame to the Ribera del Duero. Since 2000, Juan José is the technical manager and head of oenology. The family grows sixty hectares of Tempranillo grape in the municipalities of Peñafiel, Manzanillo and Olmos. Part of it is formed on vase and other part is formed on trellis. The terrain varies according to the location, from reddish-brown through clay-limestone, to a particularly calcareous vineyard. Most of the vineyards are located on hillsides and they reach 920 meters in altitude at their highest point. Before the harvest, which is done by hand, they do analytical checks to choose the optimal time for grape picking and to select which grapes will go to each different type of wine.
