2020 Preston Dry Creek Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley, California
94% Zinfandel, 6% Mataro, all estate grown and organic. Fermentation is initiated spontaneously with native yeasts. Sees 20 months in barrel, but only 10% are new. Aromatically alive with intense red and dark berry notes (some ripe, some less so), accented by cedar, dried tobacco leaf and some dark pepper. A burst of blood orange flavor arrives to complement the same aromatic notes on the palate, building to a quenching, mineral finish. This years blend is anchored by vines planted in 1910 and 1940, alchemically transformed to a wine that rewards both contemplation and outright hedonistic enjoyment. 830 cases made.
