2020 Domaine André Bonhomme Viré Clessé Vieilles Vignes

2020 Domaine André Bonhomme Viré Clessé Vieilles Vignes
Burgundy, France

Old vine alert! As its name suggests (Vieilles Vignes = old vines), this comes from vines that have an average age of 80 years. 100% Chardonnay, part is aged in stainless-steel and the other part in oak before being blended together and aged for another year in larger barrels. The aging and vine age give this wine a concentration, elegance, and complexity that belies its' price point. Very clean and pure on the nose with aromas of lemon, pear, quince, wildflower honey, and a hint of salinity. The palate has racy acidity and minerals balanced by a hint of wood on the back palate. Domaine André Bonhomme dates back to 1956, and is overseen today by André's grandson, Aurelien Palthey. The farming is 100% organic and the winemaking has a very minimal touch utilizing indigenous yeast, light filtration, and low sulfur. It's getting more and more difficult to find value in Burgundy these days, but this wine and this producer deliver amazing value!
