2021 Clos Roussely Touraine Sauvignon Blanc "L'Escale"
Loire Valley, France
100%, Sauvignon Blanc, farmed organically and fermented naturally. If you love French Sauvignon Blanc but find the premium price points of most Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé more than you want to spend on an everyday wine, look no further. Here you have more fruit character and restrained minerality than those wines without compromising on deliciousness. The estate is pllanted mainly to Sauvignon Blanc, the soil is a mixture of clay and limestone with pockets of Silex where the oldest vineyards are situated (many of which are over 80 years old).
Tasting Notes: This is a classic rendition of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc that sees fermentation and aging on the lees in stainless steel. The resulting wine is ripe and fleshy yet zingy and mouthwatering. Gorgeous notes of ripe lemon, pineapple, grapefruit zest, and savory herbs inform the nose and palate of this lovely white. The finish is all stone fruit, bright acidity and minerality.
About Clos Roussely: Vincent Roussely is the fourth-generation winemaker at his family’s beautiful 8-hectare vineyard site in the heart of Chenonceaux, in the village of Angé on the Cher River, in the Loire Valley. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2007. He even transitioned vineyard work from machine and horse to doing all everything by hand in order to have the least impact on the soil, vines and grapes which he believes greatly improved the quality of the wines.
