2020 Alban Viognier
Central Coast, California
"Alban’s Central Coast bottling is comprised of about 75% estate-grown fruit supplemented by purchased grapes. It is fermented and aged in stainless steel and bottled early to retain freshness. In the glass, it’s a brilliant yellow-gold, bursting forth with peach, apricot, and honeysuckle aromas that carry over to a textured, fruit-driven palate. Hints of white flowers and wet stones lend grace notes to the citrusy, refreshing finish. A sumptuous, Condrieu-inspired white to enjoy at 45-50 degrees in all-purpose stems. Pair it with rich, lemony seafood preparations incorporating lobster or crab." -SommSelect
92 points, Jeb Dunnuck. "While the 2020 Viognier is released under the Central Coast AVA, it’s all from the estate in the Edna Valley. Brought up mostly in stainless steel yet with a small amount of amphora, it has more pineapple and citrus notes as well as some floral and honeysuckle nuances. With classic Viognier richness, medium body, and beautiful purity, it’s one heck of an entry level Viognier. Drink it over the coming couple of years."
“Alban has been one of California’s most steadfast proponents of Rhône Valley grape varieties, with Viognier at the front of the pack. This bottling is a benchmark, plain and simple.”
