2019 Quinta de Santiago Vinho Verde
Vinho Verde, Portugal
Quinta de Santiago is one of the oldest and well known producers of wine in Portugal. They use native grapes to make some of the best wines in the region. This is a 70/30 blend, is very dry and comes in around 12.5% alcohol. This is not a fat wine, but that's mostly not what you look for in Vinho Verde. What you do look for is persistence, acidity and freshness. This excels in all of those areas. It is classically fresh. If not the deepest one ever, it never seems too thin. It does seem vibrant and gripping, though. It has plenty of energy. It's even a little tart. This is a great refresher, and it is built to hold nicely for a few years. It is nicely priced too. It may yet improve.
91 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "Citric colour. Mineral character, elegant and complex with intense tropical notes, peach, lychee and flowers of citrus and jasmine. Fresh and fruity, balanced, full-bodied and persistent with freshness and minerality characteristic of the variety and terroir."
