2019 Oenops 'Apla' Rosé
Apla, means "simply or plainly" and reflects the notion that "Simplicity is not a simple thing." It seems that this rosé is intended to be easy drinking and it certainly is, but it is far from simple!
Light salmon color. The nose is dominated by elegant notes of tangerine, orange, strawberries, white cherries, and a hint of herbs like white tea and tomato leaf (one of the unique aromas of Xinomavro). Full-bodied and layered, yet crisp and refreshing, with flavors of strawberries, raspberries, pomegranate and grapefruit with a long, refreshing finish.
A blend of 50% Xinomavro, 30% Limniona, and 20% Mavroudi. A complex and refreshing rosé made from 3 of the most interesting Greek red varieties, from vines ranging in age from 15-45 years old. Direct pressing after sorting of the grapes (some lots of whole cluster). Fermentation in inox and concrete tanks, independently for each parcel. 4 months aging on the fine lees before bottling.
Nikos Karatzas founded Oenops in 2015 and it is the most newly established winery in the region of Drama. Its main purpose is to produce high quality wines in limited quantities. The grapes come from personally selected vineyards that are organic or sustainably farmed from Drama and Macedonia.
