2019 Lydian Cabernet Sauvignon
Columbia Valley, Washington
A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this wine is aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is an incredible deal on serious, structured Cabernet Sauvignon that perfectly captures Washington style- full bodied, rich, darkly fruited and well structured.
Full bodied and rich, with loads of black cherry, currant, dark chocolate, dried herbs and barrel spice. This has some serious tannic structure with great, juicy acidity to back it up, so it will do well in the cellar, but its already delicious now. You would be rewarded to decant over the next couple of years.
About Lydian Wines
Lydian Wines is a the new second label (2017 was their first vintage) from the folks behind Avennia, one of Washington’s most acclaimed new wineries. In music, “Lydian” refers to a mode, or scale that is used as a building block for some of the world’s oldest and newest masterpieces. This happy sounding mode brings joy on its own, yet when molded and crafted by talented musicians can become a work of timeless art. To that end, winemaker Chris Peterson (formerly of DeLille) crafts Lydian using many of the same building blocks as the lauded and innovative Avennia lineup. The resulting wines showcase the pure, vibrant fruit characteristic of Washington State, but at a price that brightens Tuesday night dinners at home.
