2019 Jean Foillard Morgon 'Côte du Py' Beaujolais
Jean and Agnès Foillard took over his father’s domaine in 1980, and quickly set out to elevate cru Beaujolais to the level of great Burgundy. They are part of the famous Beaujolais "Gang of Four” (along with Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet, and Guy Breton) that have worked to reinvigorate the viticulture and winemaking of the region. Foillard has over 30 acres of organic vines on granite and schist soils on the renowned Côte du Py slope, the pride of Morgon. From vines aged 10-90 years old, this cuvée is always one of the more full and lush of their wines, one that is delicious now or that can easily age 5-10 years.
95 points, James Suckling. "An intensely mineral expression of Beaujolais that makes a good argument for this region, matching the (well known) terroir expression of Burgundy. As pure and focused as it is concentrated with a very long finish that’s all wet stones. Great aging potential! Drink or hold."
