2019 Domaine de Carrou Sancerre
Loire Valley, France
The amazing Dominique Roger manages Domaine du Carrou in Bué, one of the 14 communes in the Centre-Val de Loire that is located in the Sancerre appellation. Since the 17th century, 8 generations of the Roger family have produced wines in the Bué area of Sancerre, which is known for exceptional terroir and producing complex wines. The 2019 is even better than the 2018 and there is a really good reason for that. Facing the impending tariffs on wine with less than 14% alcohol, Dominique blended in almost half of this year’s Grand Crus to bring the final alcohol above the threshold! The 2019 Domaine du Carrou Sancerre is nothing short of stunning. The extraordinary aromatics that you are used to are still there (green apples, pear and jasmine) but the palate reveals incredibly complex Sauvignon Blanc (no doubt due in part to the Grand Cru interlopers this year), a juicy core and a super lively finish capped off with a crisp, mineral finish.
