2019 Domaine René Lequin-Colin Santenay 1er Cru La Comme

2019 Domaine René Lequin-Colin Santenay 1er Cru La Comme
Burgundy, France

The Lequin family comes from a long lineage of Burgundian producers; their presence in Santenay dates back to 1679. The first vintage of Lequin-Colin arrived in 1976, a few years after the marriage of René Lequin and Josette Colin, a descendant of wine makers from Chassagne-Montrachet. Today, their son François looks after the 9 hectares of vines stretching across Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard and Corton. Certified Organic by Ecocert since 2009, Lequin's vines in La Comme are over 45 years old grown on oolite limestone. François ferments La Comme with native yeasts in barrique, with only up to 20% of new oak. Elevage lasts a total of 15 months before bottling, with the first 12 in barrique and the last 3 in stainless. Intense, perfumed aromas of raspberries, strawberries, exotic spices, mushrooms and forest floor with clear vanilla notes from the small percentage of new oak. The palate opens with earthy character but develops to a bright fruit flavor profile. A really charming and easy-drinking Burgundy.
