2019 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Blanc "Cuvée Charlie"
Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Together, they are largely responsible for putting Marsannay on the map! Their son Cyril joined operations in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. Farming is entirely organic with certification as of the 2018 vintage. The Cuvée Charlie is a 100% Chardonnay Marsannay villages blanc named (since 2016) after Cyril's daughter, Charlie. You might easily think that this white Burgundy came from a much more famous appellation than Marsannay, thanks to the citrus-blossom nose with a delicate hint of oak, then the excellent balance of creaminess and mineral freshness on the medium-bodied palate. The palate is rich but focused with ripe pear and stone fruit flavors and long mouthwatering finish.
