2019 Alberici Lambrusco "La Fogarina"
Made from organically-farmed 85% Fogarina and 15% Ancellotta. La Fogarina is made from hand-harvested grapes from sixty-year-old vines that were abandoned, then rediscovered by Alberici in 2002. This is the only estate to commercially produce a Lambrusco from the Fogarina sub-variety! Only 4000 bottles produced in a year!
This wine is refreshingly low in alcohol (10% abv). It is deep ruby in color with a delicate mousse. Herbs and savory notes on the nose complement the dark ripe fruit in the mouth. The finish is long, juicy and almost bone dry. This is slightly more herbal than the Il Casalone, but I love how pure and precise it is. ~Mike Guerra, Enoteca Direct
