2019 Terenzuola Vermentino Bianco 'Fosso di Corsano’
The Terenzuola estate is located in extreme northern part of coastal Tuscany, in the Colli di Luni DOC, which also overlaps the southeastern corner of Liguria. This small estate is planted predominantly to Vermentino, with smaller parcels of indigenous varieties like Merla, Vernaccia Nera and Pollera. The estate’s first bottling was in 1996. Today, the estate is run by Ivan Giuliani, who converted the family farm over to organic practices. He is very dedicated and talented. 100% Vermentino. Ivan’s 24 plots of Vermentino are further broken down into 50-70 different fermentations, the exact science of each one determined by the grapes and the terroir. Quick and cold maceration, low temperature fermentation, for each of the different particles, aging on its own yeasts in steel vats for 6-7 months. Bottling takes place in March and the wine is released after 2-3 months of aging in the bottle. The Vermentino Colli di Luni Fosso di Corsano is a little richer and more fruit-driven in style than his straight Vermentino. Ash, smoke and a host of mineral notes give the wine much of its energy and thrust. Deftly balances rich and textured fruit with persistent minerality. Crushed rocks, mint and white stone fruits wrap around the palate on the finish.
