2019 Jean Foillard Morgon ‘Les Charmes Eponym’ Beaujolais
This incredible Morgon comes from the single Les Charmes vineyard, which is the highest altitude vineyard in the appellation. Like all of Foillard's wine, this is made in a "minimal intervention" style. 100% certified organic Gamay is hand harvested and only perfectly ripe fruit is kept. The traditional, whole cluster fermentation lasts from 3-4 weeks and the wine is aged for 6-9 months in barrels that are at least two years old. No sulfur was added and the wine was bottled unfiltered. A bit more bright, crunchy, and red fruited than his other wines, it still has the trademark silky Foillard texture that we love. One of the most prestigious wines of Beaujolais, and we only get one case!
94 points, Antonio Galloni's Vinous. "Glistening ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented cherry, black raspberry, violet and black cardamom scents pick up a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Chewy and tightly wound on entry, offering juicy dark berry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that deepen and slowly spread out through the back half. Shows firm tension and impressive energy on a very long, mineral-driven finish framed by polished, even tannins."
