2018 Hedges Family Estate CMS Chardonnay

2018 Hedges Family Estate CMS Chardonnay
Columbia Valley, Washington

99% Chardonnay with equal parts Sauvignon Blanc and Marsanne. 100% stainless steel fermentation at cool temperatures to retain the maximum fruit aromas and flavors. Fruit was sourced from several Columbia Valley vineyards, including the Columbia Valley and the Yakima Valley AVAs. One-third malolactic fermentation and aged in oak. Gorgeous light golden color. Lively blood orange and tart caramel apple, hints of cinnamon, and buttered toast. There is a fun fresh mineral component to this wine. The palate has a nice tart entry, which leads into a full and creamy mid-palate. There is a bit-o-butter, some fresh citrus and apple flavors with a touch of spice on the finish with just a hint of that blood orange. This is a serious Chardonnay, but that blood orange undertone is really fun!

Hedges Family Estate was founded in 1987 by husband and wife team Tom Hedges (of Richland, Washington) and Anne-Marie Liégeois (of Champagne, France). Two years later, they purchased fifty acres on Red Mountain in the Yakima Valley and planted it to Bordeaux grape varietals. in 2008, the estate finished its conversion to full biodynamic farming, eventually releasing the first Demeter certified Biodynamic Cabernet Sauvignon ever from Washington. Sarah Hedges Goedhart became the head winemaker in 2015, so this really is a family estate!
