2018 FitaPreta A Touriga Vai Nua Unoaked

It turns out he’s also a master at navigating sibling rivalry… or perhaps its his sister that is the diplomat? In the Douro, this brother and sister team has managed to pool their considerable winemaking talent to showcase the breadth of terroir in the oldest classified European appellation.
100% Touriga Nacional, grown sustainably on very poor schist and granite soils in the warm, sunny region of Alentejo in the south of Portugal. Gently crushed and gravity fed into temperature controlled stainless steel.
'The aroma is glorious: sweet mulberry and blackberry but deeply floral too with that lovely note of bergamot and even a touch of peony that I rarely see on Touriga when it is oaked. It's even more aromatic the day after opening. The aroma is so lovely, I hesitate to put the wine in my mouth because I want to make the aromatic pleasure last. The tannins are as impressive as the aroma, knowing that Touriga has firm tannins that are usually softened by oak. Here they give a gentle but confident structure that shapes the fruit and the perfume. A class act with a long, dark-fruited finish. Impressively fresh for a wine of 14.5%. At the very end, after you have swallowed the wine, you get a wave of fragrance again – of red/blue fruits and a touch of bergamot.' 17/20, Jancis Robinson
