2018 Due Terre Perricone
Due Terre Wines is a collaborative effort between friends - made from the indigenous grapes of Italy - certified organic, delicious, affordable, and well packaged. All the wines are produced as 100% pure varietals with minimal intervention and wine making in order to allow the characteristics of the grape to shine through. Perricone is likely one of the least well known of the indigenous red grapes from the island of Sicily. It is regularly blended and rarely allowed to shine on it’s own.100% Perricone. Grapes were harvested the first week of October, cryomacerated for for 24 hours to preserve freshness, followed by fermentation at 64° F/17° C for 15 days, and then 6 months in third pass barriques to soften out the edges. Moderately saturated purple-ruby. Perfumed aromas of violet and plum are complicated by blueberry jam and sweet spices. Lively and very well delineated in the mouth, with flavors of blueberry pie, savory herbs and flint lingering nicely on the ultra-smooth finish. This is a wine for heartier fare – grilled lamb, spiced sausages like merguez, braised meats and rich vegetable dishes.
