2018 Due Terre Frappato
100% organic Frappato. Grapes were harvested at the end of September, fermentation at 60° F/15° C for 12 days, and then simply aged for 12 months in concrete tanks. Frappato is one on the many extraordinary indigenous grapes from the island of Sicily. It thrives in the sandy soils of Vittoria in the southern part of the Island where it produces light, refreshing reds. Though most commonly blended with Nero d’Avola, alone it is a red worthy of a variety of foods from fish to spiced North African fare. A great Pinot Noir alternative!
Bright medium-pale red. Red cherries and berries, plus hints of flint, smoke and flowers add up to a very enticing nose. Then fresh and clean with mineral-accented flavors of red cherry, herbs and red berries. Finishes long with hints of licorice. ~Mike Guerra
About Due Terre Wines
Due Terre Wines is a collaborative effort between friends - made from the indigenous grapes of Italy - certified organic, delicious, affordable, and well packaged. All the wines are produced as 100% pure varietals with minimal intervention and wine making in order to allow the characteristics of the grape to shine through.
The winery was founded by Vito Lauria who revitalised his family’s old operation upon returning to Sicily from his studies and work experiences in Northern Italy. Due Terre is based on important, historic relationships that Vito has with small, family growers working organically around Mt. Bonifato. These are growers that have usually been practising organics for many, many years and who have genuine engagement with the vines and love for their land. Wines are all fermented on native yeast and guided in to the bottle with the aim of letting the quality of the fruit speak without the need for manipulation or heavy sulphite doses.
