2018 Domaine de Villaine Rully Blanc 1er Cru 'Rabource'
Highly allocated! Personal domaine of Aubert de Villaine - proprietor of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti! This is still an “under-the-radar” estate and a crazy bargain for the quality and pedigree of this wine! Their single-vineyard parcels are stunning examples of what this complex and amazing terroir can yield. Though their wines are quite enjoyable young, their ability to age well is what one might expect from a master such as de Villaine. Much of this is due to both the diversity of his vinestock and his organic and biodynamic methodology in the vineyards.
For a first vintage, this wine was immediately marked by its "terroir" consisting of white clay, with an opulent nose of aromas of white flesh fruits, chalky notes, verbena and grilled toast, slightly woody due to vinification and aging in a new wooden lightning. The palate is beautiful, fine and fleshy, fruity and very digestible, with a very beautiful aromatic persistence reminiscent of the cherry kernel at the end of the palate.
91 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "The 2018 Rully 1er Cru Rabourcé offers up notions of crisp orchard fruit, orange zest, nutmeg and vanilla pod that's patinated by its maturation in a new foudre purchased expressly to vinify this new parcel. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and precise, it's lively and charming, concluding with a long, saline finish."
