2018 Domaine Tessier Bourgogne Blanc 'Champ-Perrier'
Can you say "Declassified Meursault??" 100% Chardonnay. 45+ year old vines. Practicing organic. From a single plot of 0.4 ha in the village of Meursault, on the Puligny border, directly below the lieu dit of Corvee des Vignes. Fermented using indigenous yeast. Aged in barrel (10% new). Finished in tank for 6 months before bottling.
Tasting Notes: Has a light chalky bouquet that needs some coaxing from the glass. The palate is bright and fresh with good acidic drive, lovely weight in the mouth with hints of orange pith and crunchy green apples towards the focused, quite persistent finish. This is impressive for a Bourgogne Blanc.
Winery Notes: Arnaud started working the vineyards with his father when he was just 14 years old. After his father died suddenly and tragically in 2009, Arnaud Tessier was thrust into the spotlight of leading a domaine at the age of 21. The holdings here have always been some of the best, with prime parcels in the best crus of the village. The vineyard work is fully organic with constant ploughing. In the cellar, he is assisted by his wife, Catherine, who uses indigenous yeasts for the fermentation and allows the wines to go through a long and slow elevage. The work that this dynamic duo put in have put them squarely in the conversation among the top producers of Meursault.
