Finally, a great domestic Viognier! 100% Viognier whole cluster pressed into settling tank for 24 hours of clarification, then racked to barrels for long, slow, native ferment. Malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine was aged for 15 months in 320l french oak cigar-shaped barrels (56% new). Only 520 cases were produced.
93 points, Antonio Galloni's Vinous. "Pale, green-hued yellow. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits are complicated by hints of chalky minerals and pungent flowers. Juicy and deeply concentrated but lively as well, offering mineral-laced pear and Meyer lemon flavors that show fine clarity and sharp focus. The mineral and floral notes repeat strongly on the penetrating finish, which hangs on with impressive persistence."
92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "The 2018 Viognier is classy on the nose, with a delicate perfume of white peaches, jasmine, citrus oil and spices. The palate is soft, juicy and approachable, with mineral-laced fruits and an uplifted, gently textured finish. 520 cases were made."
Winery Tasting Notes: Brightly pitched aromas of white peach, orange peel, flint and yellow rose make a bold introduction to this complex white wine. Flavors of Casaba melon, kaffir lime, and shortbread intermingle on the rich and creamy mid-palate. Bright acidity quickly balances the intensity of the flavors, providing a zippy, long, and refreshing finish.
Winery Info: Denner Vineyards is an estate on the far western border of the Paso Robles AVA. Founded by Ron Denner in 1999 after an exhaustive search throughout California. The 156-acre parcel presses up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil. The estate is nestled into the Templeton Gap. Denner Vineyards currently uses 45 of the total 108 acres for their estate wine program. The remaining grapes are sold to ultra-premium producers in Paso Robles. Much of their fruit graces the wines of Villa Creek Cellars, Linne Calodo, and Justin Vineyards among others. Denner’s winemaking program is headed by Anthony Yount, a graduate of California Polytechnical University. He is amazingly talented and we are big fans of his wines.
