2018 Côtière Pinot Noir
Santa Rita Hills, California
This is a brand and a winemaker I think you should get to know and remember. Kevin Law, the man behind these wines, is known for his work with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but I have loved every single one of his wines that I've tasted. He sources fruit from top vineyards in the Central Coast and his dual degrees in Meteorology and Geology seem to have given him a magical gift to tease out every drop of the amazing potential from the fruit he uses. ~Mike Guerra, Advanced Sommelier, Enoteca Direct
This wine is a blend of the La Rinconada, Sanford & Benedict, and Hilliard Bruce Vineyards. These three vineyards are uniquely located on the cool western edges of the appellation. 100% destemmed, 30% new French oak. 17 months in barrel, and bottled unfined, unfiltered.
93 points, Jeb Dunnuck. "Moving to the Pinot Noirs, the 2018 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills comes from a mix of sites and was all destemmed and aged in 30% new French oak. It has a terrific nose of spiced raspberries, strawberries, dried flowers, and incense that gives way to a medium-bodied Pinot Noir with a balanced, elegant texture, integrated tannins, and a great finish. It's another elegant, seamless 2018 that's going to evolve gracefully on its balance and purity."
92 points, Vinous Media. "The 2018 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is a gorgeous appellation-level wine. Fresh and beautifully perfumed, the 2018 shows the more restrained side of the Sta. Rita Hills. Rose petal, blood orange, star anise and spice add an exotic flair. The 2018 is translucent, expressive and a total delight."
