2018 Château Semonlon Haut-Médoc
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Depending upon the year, a green harvest and leaf plucking may take place. Everything is hand harvested. The pressed juice is fermented in stainless steel following a cold maceration. Once the malolactic fermentation has taken place, the wine is racked into 2-year old oak barrels sourced from the 4th Growth Grand Cru Classe, Château Prieuré-Lichine, where it continues its evolution for 12 months. Annual production at the Château is 45,000 bottles or just under 4,000 cases.
The wine’s deep ruby color emits aromas that are complex yet elegant, with notes of blackcurrant, red and black berries, and licorice along with a touch of vanilla and spice. Really good value, sturdy little Bordeaux.
