2018 Caraccioli 'Private Property' Pinot Noir

"I truly believe this to be one of the best California Pinots for the price. As good as the Estate Pinot is, this is a ridiculous value, made from a combination of estate fruit and purchased fruit. When Jenn and I visited the tasting room a couple of months ago with Nick Dazzi’s parents, Nick’s dad, who was born in Burgundy, said that if he had tasted the wine blind, he would have called it an older Santenay! When we decided to get a bottle to share after we finished our flights, THIS Pinot was the unanimous choice! Why? It has a core of red & black fruit, with subtle herb & savory notes, dried flowers and spice, with mouthwatering acidity and firm tannins that give it backbone and enough structure for mid-term cellaring. This isn’t a “slutty” Pinot, that gives up all its charms right out of the gate. This is classy and restrained. You’ll have to pay attention and be a little patient to reap the rewards this wine has to offer. Very impressive!" ~Mike Guerra
Picked and sorted by hand. Destemmed and fermented in small open-top stainless tanks with manual punch-down. Pressed with a coquard basket press. Aging in neutral French oak for 9 months before crossflow and bottling. Tasty, lip-smacking cherry and rhubarb, with sweet strawberries kicking in on the back. Both pretty and rustic, fresh and spicy, it’s simply irresistible -- be careful!
