2018 Capiaux Pinot Noir 'Pisoni Vineyard'
Santa Lucia Highlands, California
This is coming from arguably California's finest PInot Noir vineyard and one of the best vintages in the Santa Lucia Highlands in the last couple of decades. Pisoni Vineyard wines are always amongst some of California's most long lived and cellarable Pinots, and this is a great example at a low price point (for this vineyard).
96 points, Purely Domestic Wine Report. "The nose is rosemary, subtle lavender and blossom with notes of desert underbrush. The palate is dominated by textured mint, plum and waxy Luxardo cherry with notes of herb, espresso and tobacco. It takes about 30 minutes to open up, worth the wait. Drink 2021 -2030."
91+ points, Antonio Galloni's Vinous. "Another super-expressive wine in this range from Sean Capiaux. The Pisoni was fermented in concrete – with some whole clusters, and that very much comes through in the wine’s aromatic and flavor profile."
