2017 L'Arco 'Rùbeo' Rosso del Veronese IGT
Veneto, Italy
A stunning wine with half made like Amarone (Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes dried on straw mats) and half like Cab (Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon), but from the Valpolicella region of northern Italy! Made by the disciple of the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli, this is a simply amazing wine that recently made its way to the market and will certainly become the next big thing. Loaded with layers of sweet dried fruit, warm strawberry jam, fig, leather, smoke, spice, dried cherry and earth.
95 points, Vinous. "The 2017 Rubeo is understated in the glass, as coaxing unlocks a mix of dusty rose, dried strawberries, brown spice and a lifting hint of mint. Like liquid velvet, this envelopes the palate, contrasting ripe red fruits with bitter cocoa and sour citrus, underscored by a core of zesty acidity. The 2017 tapers off with tremendous length, and a gentle tug of tannin as enriching notes of plum sauce and balsam herbs linger on and on. The Rubeo is a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc that underwent three months of appassimento, along with 30% Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 10% Molinara. Think of it as paying homage to Quintarelli's Alzero. Wow!”
