2017 Domaine Eden Pinot Noir
Santa Cruz Mountains, California
Winemaker and Proprietor Jeffrey Patterson has been making wine at Mount Eden since 1981. With three decades under his belt, he continues with the same goal as when he started: to express this singular vineyard. Fermentation is done with native yeasts, oak influence is kept minimal, and fining and filtering are minimal when used at all. Few wineries in California have the sort of history that is found at Mount Eden and few wineries in the world can match the level of quality being produced here. This is a unique terroir being overseen by conscientious stewards and these are wines that could not possibly have come from anywhere else in the world. The Patterson's purchased what is now the nearby Domaine Eden estate in 2007. The viticulture at Domaine Eden is approached with the same level of naturalness and sustainability as Mount Eden’s estate vineyards.
93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "The 2017 Pinot Noir from Domaine Eden has a pleasant, volcanic-like nose with scents of tar, scorched earth and iodine with a core of pure, aniseed-laced red and black berry fruits. Medium-bodied, the palate packs intense, pure flavors into a finely silty, fresh frame, and it finishes very long. It's an earthy, layered Pinot that will age very well in bottle."
92 points & Editor's choice, Wine Enthusiast. "This is a great example of the wines being made by Mount Eden and other classic producers in this region. Aromas of ripe raspberry, crushed stone and dried herbs lead into a taut palate where cranberry skin, wild sage and tobacco flavors ride vibrant acidity."
