2017 Covert Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley, California
This is classic Coombsville Cabernet; rich black fruit, with an elegant, velvety texture. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak, the 2017 has deep, rich aromas of boysenberry, blackcurrant, and vibrant cassis. On the palate, the ripe black fruits meld with Moroccan mint tea, cedar, dried fig, and sweet mocha notes with texturally round, supple tannins, followed by a long, fresh finish. Another incredibly luxurious Cabernet made from the talented Julien Fayard (longtime right hand man to Phillipe Melka- his resume includes Château Lafite-Rothschild, Dalle Valle, Lailas, and Quintessa!!!). 220 cases produced.
93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a little closed to begin. With coaxing it opens out to notions of plum preserves, baked blackberries, kirsch and cassis with hints of bay leaves, red roses and cloves plus a touch of tapenade. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy and freshness with loads of mineral sparks and a long savory finish."
92 points, Antonio Galloni's Vinous. "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is the only Cabernet from Covert (there are no selections), and it is quite impressive. In the glass, it offers a beguiling mix of rich, dark red-toned fruit and bright floral notes that add both energy and freshness. The 2017 is deep, but also light on its feet for such a powerful wine. This brilliant Cabernet from Julien Fayard has so much to offer. Fayard blends estate fruit with grapes from several other nearby Coombsville properties. (Drink between 2022-2032) "
