2017 Calera Pinot Noir 'Ryan Vineyard'

2017 Calera Pinot Noir 'Ryan Vineyard'
Mt. Harlan, California

100% organic Pinot Noir aged 17 months in 30% new French oak, has a pale to medium ruby-purple color and is youthful and shy to begin. With coaxing, aromas of prosciutto, wild blackberries, lemon peel and redcurrants emerge, with nuances of oolong tea leaves and dusty earth. Medium-bodied, it’s broody and earthy with lifted citrusy accents in the mouth, a finely grained frame and juicy freshness on the finish. Planted in 1998, Ryan is named after Jim Ryan, Calera’s vineyard manager since 1979, a surprise to Jim until he saw the first vintage in bottle in 2002. It’s their highest elevation vineyard at 2500 feet above sea level.

96 Points, Tasting Panel. "Aromas and flavors of sweet earth and vibrant rose petals open this ethereal red. Jasmine takes shape with underlying notes of crushed rock and sugared beets. Hedonistic as it is, it gradually gentles, paving the way for the elegant finish"
