2017 L'Arco Amarone Classico della Valpolicella DOC
Veneto, Italy
Soon to be a cult classic! A totally beguiling wine, this is very traditional in style. The grapes are laid out to dry and raisinate for 100 days prior to pressing. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, and the wine is aged for three to four years in Slovenian oak barrels. Only a tiny amount came into the United States! Dark plums, cherries, incense, chocolate, tobacco, leather and spice are some of the many nuances that emerge from the glass. The tannins are very refined and the finish is elegant and long.
96 points, Vinous. "A burst of exotic spice, dusty dried flowers, plums and cherry sauce introduces the 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella. This grows in volume and depth with swirling, taking on savory notes of seared meats and cocoa. This is deep and velvety on the palate, yet there's a core of sour wild berries, zesty citrus and tantalizing acidity that adds both energy and depth. The 2017 finishes spicy and vibrant, yet incredibly long, with liquid rose tones, licorice and dark chocolate that linger on and on. What a beauty. “
