2015 Chartogne-Taillet 'Les Couarres' Extra Brut
Extremely high 'cool factor' alert! Under young Alexandre Chartogne’s guidance, the wines of Chartogne-Taillet have become some of the most sought-after Champagnes being produced. This 100% Pinot Noir Champagne from the 'Les Couarres' vineyard comes from vines planted in 1982, all on tuffeau soils, and farmed organically. It is fermented using only native yeasts, goes through partial malolactic fermentation, is raised in a combination of used barriques and concrete eggs, spends 48 months on the lees, and is dosed at 6g/L.
93 points, Vinous Media. "The 2015 Les Couarres (Pinot Noir), is ample, creamy and wonderfully expressive. The natural breadth of Pinot comes through beautifully. Vinification in oak brings out striking vinous intensity in the red plum, spice, leather and crushed flower flavors. Although the 2015 has plenty of depth to age, it is incredibly appealing now."
