2014 Casas del Toqui 'Gran Toqui' Syrah
Cachapoal Valley, Chile
In 1994, Château Larose Trintaudon, a major producer from Bordeaux, partnered with a traditional wine-producing family from the Totihue region in Chile and together they founded Casas del Toqui Winery. In 2010, their legacy was recaptured by the Court family. The majority of their vineyards are located in Alto Cachapoal, about 100 kilometers south of Santiago. They also source and vinify grapes from Alto Maipo, the intermediate zone of the Cachapoal Valley, and from cool areas such as Casablanca and Paredones. 100% Syrah. Fermentation at 27C-29C, with post fermentation maceration, then aged in oak barrels for 14 months.
Full-bodied on the palate, with a delicious marriage of dark fruit and wood, it is a very complex wine. Long finish and great persistence. Great Value!
90 points, Wine Enthusiast. "A saturated, dark purple color and dense blackberry, black olive and chocolate aromas open this firm but nicely balanced Syrah—a grape that deserves more attention in Chile. Its savory plum and berry flavors are stretched a bit thin across its medium, oak-laced finish. "
