2014 Big Basin Vineyards GSM
Santa Cruz Mountains, California
49% Grenache, 32% Mourvedre, 19% Syrah, all farmed organically, sourced from the great vineyards Coastview in the Gabilan Mountains and Brosseau and Antle Vineyards in Chalone. Gentle extraction in small 1.5 ton fermenters followed by a gentle press into neutral French oak barrels produced a wine with great structure and mouthfeel. Medium-full bodied, with dark, earthy herbal and savory fruit that opens up with a bit of air to make you feel like you’re walking through through the Santa Cruz Mountains after a rainfall. Some tannic structure at first, which softens consdierable with some time in the glass. In a great drinking window right now.
