2012 Tre Fattori Barolo DOCG
Piedmont, Italy
100% sustainably grown Nebbiolo from 40 year old vines planted on limestone and clay soils. Fermented with native yeasts and aged for two years in barrel. The name Tre Fattori literally means “three factors” but “fattore” also means “farm manager” in Italian. These families sell 90 of their grapes each year to “famous” producers in the area whose wines typically are priced at least at twice the price but they produce their own wines for an avid clientele of local restaurants in the region. There are aromas of violets and roses along with hints of cherries, licorice, and leather. Flavors of cassis and cherry almost seem secondary, however, to the overall rich deep mouthfeel that is balanced across the palate. The refreshing minerality from the Cerequio vineyard site in La Morra results in a long and fully saturated experience of the wine’s full flavors.
