2011 Lanciola Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG
95% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colorino, Canaiolo.
This is a selection of the very best fruit that Lanciola can source from its 5 hectare Le Masse vineyard in Greves. Aged in French oak for 24 months before an additional 6 months in bottle before release, this is a powerful and mature Sangiovese, showing off ripe, dark fruit, lots of earthy, spicy and tobacco notes, and a full bodied mouthfeel with tannins softened by the decade of aging.
94 points, Gilbert & Gaillard. "Fairly mature colour. The nose is also mature and intermixes jammy fruits with a vegetal touch, notes of undergrowth, spice and venison. Good grip on the palate which is powerful, warm and full-bodied yet tense. Wild yet strict. A beautiful wine."
93 points, James Suckling. "Aromas of very ripe fruit with raisin, spice and dried fruits. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Dense mouthfeel. Delicious fruit. Drink now."
